About Us
Gently Borne Midwifery is a Home Birth Midwife Practice based in Ithaca, NY. We have served local families in Ithaca and surrounding areas since 1998. Our care team is comprised of a NY Licensed Nurse Midwife/Acupuncturist, Registered Nurses, Birth Assistants, Doulas and friendly office staff.
We enjoy an excellent reputation in our community, and over the last 20+ years have developed positive relationships with individual practitioners in both traditional and alternative medicine. We are part of a network of birth professionals that includes lactation consultants, massage therapists, chiropractors, placenta encapsulation providers, yoga instructors, photographers, childbirth educators, nurse-practitioners, family doctors and obstetricians. We are grateful for the care our clients receive at area hospitals if the need for a higher level of medical care arises. If transfer is needed we will accompany you and join the hospital team of nurses, doctors and midwives.

Our Practice
We offer the best aspects of medical training and women-centered care for our clients. From our private office we offer hour long prenatal visits, a two-hour birth preparation visit at your home, private attendance during your labor and two follow up home visits for you and baby in the week after birth.
We are able to draw your blood work at our office and order ultrasounds and referrals for specialty care as needed. You will be informed about your choices and options for testing and be able to choose which make sense for your family.
Our staff is available 24/7 throughout your pregnancy by phone and text. We are committed to giving you the respect and support you need to accomplish the prenatal care and birth experience you desire.
pre-conception
You can start with our practice from the time you first think about getting pregnant. We consult on boosting fertility and strengthening pregnancy through diet, supplementation, acupuncture/Chinese medicine and any needed preconception testing. We offer basic consultation to review your cycles. We can help with simple AI (Artificial Insemination) or IUC/IUI (Intracervical Insemination/Intrauterine Insemination) all done naturally in sync with your own cycle.
Once Pregnant
We are often the first call a mom makes after she sees her positive pregnancy test, and we love sharing in the good news! We also accept transfer of care when moms decide later in pregnancy that they are interested in a different style of care than they may be receiving. Just call the office to set up a free consultation. The first prenatal visit is usually scheduled for 10 weeks from the first day of your last period, but we are available to help with early pregnancy challenges like morning sickness or spotting.
We offer a free I-hour consultation visit for first time parents or people interested in having their first home delivery.
Home birth is also a lower cost alternative to a hospital birth! Although we are out-of-network with all insurance companies, most reimburse some costs, if not all!
